"Your support has been truly transformative! I've gone from feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about how to proceed, to feeling clear and confident - we have broken through some huge challenges!"

Jennifer Raven, CEO, Fairbeats

"I have learned two fundamental truths about financially resilient charities...."

Liz Pepler sets out her approach to building financial confidence.

First, financially resilient charities are led by financially confident leaders.Second, financial confidence is available to all of us. It comes from embracing the finances, investing time to look backwards and look forwards, being clear on the risks and managing them. It comes when leaders actively embrace finance, sit with the discomfort and messiness that financial uncertainty brings and create strategies to manage it. Leaders who develop resilient charities, embrace the numbers and recognise them as a core part of financial sutainability.

"My approach is rooted in the recognition that financial engagement isn’t just numbers - it’s about us as people."

Many charity leaders face psychological barriers, such as anxiety, lack of confidence, or a belief that finance is too complex or overwhelming. These barriers can lead to avoidance, reactive decision-making, or a reluctance to challenge financial assumptions.

My approach addresses the emotional and practical aspects of finance. By incorporating mentoring alongside technical support, I help leaders build financial confidence, develop a proactive mindset, and create lasting habits that strengthen their charity’s resilience.

"I never thought I'd hear myself say this but I am so excited about taking our financial and organisational resilience to the next level. I'm also really proud of what we've achieved and where we are, I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for steering a pretty water tight ship through the choppiest of waters year on year, month on month. Liz helped us recognise that."
